So, I'm eager to get myself a new laptop, since my nice little compaq evo n410c was stolen from me a few weeks back (satisfyingly, sans CD drive and running Linux, so it's hard to believe they could do anything with it...). Most upsettingly, of course, is the great collection of stickers I had built up for the little machine.

This week, I've been trying to make an effort to reshuffle the user spaces on the openDemocracy server: we have a lot of old users and they've been taking up space, so I backed them up and released a few Gb: problem is, when I then try and reinstate one of these users, which I assumed would be as simple as copying the filder back to the network userprofiles folder. But no:this simply doesn't work, and breaks many things with the user and applications. Compare this with the upgrade I've just done on my laptop: completely reinstalling linux, formatting my system partition and changing desktop manager.
